Year 11 Curriculum
The Year 11 curriculum at The Constance Bridgeman Centre continues to build on the foundations established in Year 10, supporting students as they work towards recognised qualifications and prepare for the next stage of their education or training.

Subject Intent
English
In Year 11 the English curriculum encourages students to develop strong literacy skills through the study of a wide variety of texts and literary forms. Students learn to analyse ideas, communicate effectively and develop their own voice in both spoken and written work.
By exploring different themes and perspectives, students gain a deeper understanding of English language while building a lifelong appreciation for reading and writing. The skills develop are critical for students to attain a recognise qualification and gain entry to a chosen career pathway.
Mathematics
In Year 11 the mathematics curriculum focuses on strengthening students’ confidence and accuracy in applying mathematical concepts. Students continue to develop reasoning skills, problem-solving strategies and the ability to apply mathematics to real-life situations.
The course supports students in achieving recognised qualifications while ensuring they gain essential numerical skills needed for everyday life and future employment.
Science
In Year 11 the science curriculum continues to develop students’ scientific understanding and build on their prior knowledge while developing investigative skills through practical work and data analysis. All three disciplines physic, chemistry and biology are taught with the aim with all students attaining GCSE qualification or equivalent. Lessons encourage students to question ideas, test hypotheses and evaluate results, helping them develop a deeper understanding of the scientific world and potential future pathways in science-related fields.
Art
In Year 11 the art curriculum enables students to further refine their artistic skills and develop personal creative projects. They are encouraged to experiment with materials and techniques while developing their own artistic style and ideas.
Students also analyse and interpret the work of artists and designers, helping them understand the role of art in society and the range of creative career opportunities available. Students will be prepared for a recognised GCSE qualification or equivalent.
Food Technology
In Year 11 the Food Technology curriculum is designed to enable students to explore the art of cooking and food innovation in a practical and engaging way. With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, students develop essential skills in food preparation, cooking techniques, and an understanding of the nutritional value of ingredients.
The curriculum combines practical experiences with underpinning theoretical knowledge, allowing students to understand where food comes from, how it contributes to a healthy lifestyle, and how to plan and produce a range of dishes safely and effectively.
Through this balanced approach, students gain the skills and knowledge required to access an appropriate qualification pathway, whether that be a BTEC Level 2 or a GCSE qualification, supporting their individual strengths and future aspirations.
Music
In Year 11 the Music curriculum allows students to further develop their performance and composition skills while exploring the technical and creative aspects of music production.
Students gain practical experience in creating and recording music while continuing to build knowledge of the music industry. Through their studies, students work towards achieving their BTEC Music qualification.
Physical Education (PE)
In Year 11 the PE curriculum continues to promote participation, fitness and teamwork through a variety of sporting activities. Students further develop their physical abilities while strengthening confidence, resilience and cooperation.
The curriculum aims to support students in maintaining an active lifestyle and developing skills that can be applied in both recreational and competitive settings.
PSHE / RSE
In Year 11 the PSHE curriculum focuses on preparing students for adulthood by exploring topics such as healthy relationships, personal wellbeing, financial responsibility, employment and future education pathways.
Through discussion and practical learning activities, students develop the confidence to make informed decisions and understand the responsibilities of adult life. Religious Education remains part of the programme, helping students develop respect for different cultures, beliefs and communities.
Parents retain the legal right to withdraw their child from the sex education component of the RSE curriculum.
