Enrichment

At The Constance Bridgeman Centre (CBC), our Enrichment Curriculum is designed to give students opportunities to experience activities and learning beyond the traditional classroom. Many of these experiences may be ones that students would not typically have access to outside of school, helping to broaden their interests and develop new skills.

Through enrichment activities, students are encouraged to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop important social and communication skills. The programme supports students in improving their self-esteem while creating opportunities to form positive friendships and work collaboratively with others.

All enrichment activities are carefully selected or designed to reflect and promote the school’s core values: Respect, inclusivity, aspiration, determination and resilience.

Our enrichment offer is reviewed each year and may change depending on the individual needs and interests of our students to ensure that the programme contributes meaningfully to their personal development.

Barbering

Students take part in foundation-level barbering sessions, delivered by experienced professionals. These sessions introduce students to the core skills of barbering, including hygiene, client care, basic cutting techniques and professional presentation.

The course provides students with a practical insight into the industry and an opportunity to develop focus, precision and creativity in a structured environment. For many, it serves as a platform to explore potential career pathways and further training within the hair and beauty sector.

Barbering at CBC supports employability and independence by helping students gain transferable skills such as communication, attention to detail and customer service. It also promotes confidence and pride in achievement, giving students a valuable foundation should they wish to pursue barbering as a future profession.

Cycling

Students at CBC take part in structured cycling sessions that focus on building endurance, coordination and confidence. Beginning with mountain biking, students develop control, balance and awareness while navigating a range of terrains. These sessions promote fitness, determination and resilience in a challenging but supportive environment.

As students progress, they move on to advanced cycling sessions at the Olympic Velodrome, where the emphasis shifts towards speed, precision and performance. Training in a world-class facility helps students to refine their technique, set personal goals and experience achievement through focus and perseverance.

Cycling and velodrome training together encourage independence, responsibility and healthy lifestyle habits, providing students with practical skills they can use well beyond their time at CBC.

Climbing

Climbing reintroduces students to controlled physical challenge and requires focus, courage and trust. In Key Stage 4, students progress to top-rope climbing, developing advanced techniques that demand balance, planning and co-operation with their climbing partner. The experience mirrors many of the personal qualities valued at CBC, resilience, determination and mutual respect and offers an opportunity for pupils to experience achievement through perseverance.

Fairlop Waters – Water Sports

At Fairlop Waters, students participate in a range of water sports including sailing, canoeing and paddle boarding. These experiences build upon earlier teamwork and trust-based activities, requiring calm decision-making and a measured response to changing conditions. Students learn to manage both their physical and emotional responses, developing resilience, problem-solving and communication skills. These activities are key in helping pupils build confidence in unfamiliar environments while enjoying the wellbeing benefits of being outdoors.

Gym and Fitness Training

Students take part in structured gym sessions at a professional fitness facility, applying the routines and techniques introduced during earlier enrichment experiences. The sessions promote the importance of physical health, goal-setting and personal discipline. Working in a public environment also helps students develop independence, confidence and respect for shared spaces, reinforcing the transferable skills they will need as adults.

Redbridge Sports Centre – Racket Sport

Students attend enrichment sessions at Redbridge Sports Centre, where they take part in a range of racket sports including badminton and indoor tennis. These activities help students develop coordination, agility and focus, while also strengthening communication and teamwork skills.

Racket sports encourage students to think strategically, show respect for opponents and demonstrate perseverance through practice and competition. The sessions promote physical fitness and self-discipline, while reinforcing CBC’s core values of effort, respect and resilience. Students gain confidence as they improve their skills and experience the satisfaction of achievement through commitment and teamwork.

Self-Defence and Boxing

Self-defence and boxing sessions at CBC promote confidence, discipline and self-awareness. Students are taught practical techniques for personal safety, self-protection and fitness, alongside strategies for de-escalation and emotional control.

Boxing is delivered in a structured, non-contact format that focuses on skill, co-ordination and resilience rather than aggression. Students learn the importance of respect, routine and self-discipline, while developing strength, stamina and focus through controlled physical activity.

Skiing and Snowboarding

In Year 10, students participate in dry-slope skiing lessons at Brentwood, where they develop balance, co-ordination and focus. These sessions require persistence, patience and determination as students learn to control movement and manage risk in a new and challenging environment.

In Year 11, students progress to snowboarding, applying and extending the skills gained through skiing. This advanced activity promotes further resilience, adaptability and confidence as students take on new physical and technical challenges.

Together, skiing and snowboarding provide unique opportunities for personal growth, encouraging students to persevere, regulate emotions and celebrate success through effort and commitment. Both activities form an integral part of CBC’s wider personal development framework, promoting independence and self-belief.
