Black History Month at CBC

Throughout October, CBC will be proudly celebrating Black History Month with a range of exciting events and learning opportunities designed to recognise, explore and celebrate the contributions, achievements and influence of Black individuals and communities throughout history and in contemporary society.

To mark this important month, the school has been transformed with vibrant displays and decorations, creating an environment that encourages curiosity, reflection and meaningful discussion. Around the school, students will find information about inspirational figures, significant historical events and the many ways black culture has enriched society across the world.

As part of our celebrations, students will have the opportunity to attend two exciting theatre trips to London’s West End. Students will be visiting the Victoria Palace Theatre to see Hamilton, the award-winning musical that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through a diverse cast and contemporary music, and the Lyceum Theatre to see The Lion King, a spectacular production that celebrates African-inspired storytelling, music and artistry. These experiences will give students the chance to engage with powerful performances while developing their appreciation of theatre and culture.

Black History Month will also be reflected across the curriculum. Throughout the month, pupils will take part in a variety of learning activities in lessons, exploring the impact and achievements of Black people within subjects such as English, History, Art, Music, Science, Sport and beyond. These activities will help students gain a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives and contributions that have shaped our world.

At CBC, we believe that Black History Month is not only about learning about the past but also about celebrating achievement, promoting understanding and inspiring future generations. We look forward to an exciting month of learning, discussion and celebration as we come together to recognise the importance of diversity, inclusion and respect within our school community.

We encourage all pupils to take part fully in the activities on offer and to embrace the opportunity to learn something new. Together, we can celebrate the rich histories, cultures and achievements that make our communities stronger and our futures brighter.
