We’re excited to share that our school has been selected to take part in This is Lit!, a national book‑club initiative led by Pearson Edexcel. This project brings together a small number of schools across the country to help shape the future of GCSE English, and we’re proud to be among those chosen to contribute.
What is This is Lit?
This is Lit is a new book‑club programme designed to champion a more contemporary, inclusive literary canon for secondary students. Its aim is simple but powerful: to inspire a genuine love of reading by introducing young people to fresh, relevant, and diverse texts that reflect the world they live in.
By participating, our students and teachers become part of a national conversation about what modern literature can—and should—look like in the classroom.
What Opportunities Does It Offer?
As members of the book club, our school will receive a range of exciting resources, including:
- Free contemporary books for students
- Discussion guides and teaching resources to support classroom conversations
- Access to online events with authors, educators, and the Pearson Edexcel English team
- Exclusive This is Lit bookmarks and badges for participating students
We’ll also be provided with a comprehensive Book Club Guide, giving us everything we need to make the most of the experience.
These opportunities not only enrich our English curriculum but also give students a chance to engage with literature in new and meaningful ways.
Why Being Selected Matters
Only a limited number of schools have been invited to join This is Lit in its early stages. Being chosen means our students have a direct role in influencing the future of GCSE English. Their voices, experiences, and responses to the texts will help Pearson Edexcel shape a more inclusive and representative literary landscape for young people across the country.
It’s a chance for our school community to contribute to something bigger—ensuring that future exam texts reflect a wider range of stories, perspectives, and authors.
What Happens Next?
We’ll soon receive our first delivery of books, and once they arrive, our book‑club sessions will begin. In the meantime, we’re thrilled to be part of this national initiative and look forward to the conversations, creativity, and critical thinking it will spark among our students.
