Today-20th March 2026, our school marked the International Day of Happiness with a joyful blend of reflection, kindness, and community spirit. The day encouraged everyone—students and staff alike—to pause, appreciate the good around them, and spread a little extra positivity.
🌟 Starting the Day With Reflection
We began with a simple but powerful question shared during morning tutor time: “What makes you happy?”
Pupils wrote their answers on colourful cards, filling corridors with messages about family, pets, friends, football, music, and even the joy of a sunny morning.
Classes then explored a second prompt from the presentation: “What will you do today to make someone else happy?”
This sparked thoughtful discussions about kindness—holding doors open, helping classmates, giving compliments, and checking in on someone who might be feeling left out.
🎥 A Moment of Inspiration
During tutor time, students also watched a short uplifting video linked in the presentation. It highlighted how small acts of kindness can create big waves of happiness. The message set the tone for the rest of the day: happiness isn’t just something we feel—it’s something we can share.
🌱 Mindful March Activities.
Inspired by the slide encouraging everyone to “try out some of these ‘Mindful March’ activities,” classes took part in simple, calming tasks designed to help students slow down and appreciate the moment. These included:
– Mindful breathing to reset and refocus
– Gratitude circles, where pupils shared something they were thankful for
– Kindness challenges, such as writing a positive note for someone
– Outdoor mindfulness walks, noticing sounds, colours, and textures
– Stretchy smiley fidget toy gifts.
Everyone agreed that these activities helped create a calmer, more connected atmosphere throughout the school.
🤝 Spreading Happiness Across the Community
Beyond the classroom, pupils took the celebration into the wider school community. Some year groups created “Happiness Posters” with encouraging messages, while others made cards for staff members who work behind the scenes—cleaners, office staff, lunchtime supervisors—to thank them for everything.
💛A Day That Lasts Beyond a Day
Although the International Day of Happiness is just one date on the calendar, the spirit of the celebration continues. Many classes have chosen to keep a “Happiness Wall” or a “Kindness Jar” to remind themselves that joy grows when we nurture it.
The day showed us that happiness doesn’t have to be grand or complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as a smile, a kind word, or taking a moment to breathe and appreciate the world around us.
