Referrals
Students are referred to CBC through the Redbridge Local Authority Schools Exclusion Team. These referrals can be due to permanent exclusions from mainstream schools or fixed-term referrals when a student is at risk of exclusion.
We do not accept direct referrals from private individuals. However, we are able to accept students from outside the Redbridge Local Authority, as well as transfers from other Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). All applications should be initially made via Redbridge Schools Exclusion Team.
Potential students and their parent/carer(s) are referred to the Redbridge Inclusion Panel by an appropriate agency, and from there they may be referred to a Pupil Referral Unit.
CBC is one of two PRUs serving Key Stage 4 students in Redbridge. We are committed to providing every student with the opportunity to receive an education and a fresh start. However, students must be willing to engage and work with us to develop acceptable behaviour and learning practices in order to succeed.
All prospective Key Stage 4 students and their parent/carer(s) are invited to attend an initial interview, followed by a diagnostic baseline assessment. This assessment identifies areas of the literacy and numeracy curriculum that may need additional support. Following this, students are allocated to a tutor group and provided with a daily timetable.
Students who are well placed within our environment typically attend regularly, follow our common-sense rules, and achieve success. If there are concerns about behaviour, punctuality, or attendance, an early review meeting will be arranged to support the individual student and ensure they stay on track. Our priority is to maintain a calm, focused learning atmosphere for all students. It is also important that staff are able to work in a safe and positive environment.
