English

The Key Stage 4 English curriculum focuses on the development of English Language skills, enabling Students to become confident communicators and effective readers. Through studying a range of texts and real-world materials, Students learn how to interpret information, share their ideas clearly and communicate appropriately with different audiences.

The curriculum prioritises the development of core literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing accuracy and spoken communication. Students are supported in structuring their ideas clearly, improving their vocabulary and expressing their thoughts with confidence. By building these essential skills, we aim to prepare Students for further education, employment and everyday life.

Mathematics

The Key Stage 4 Mathematics curriculum focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to use mathematical skills in everyday situations and future employment. The curriculum encourages Students to develop fluency, logical thinking and effective problem-solving strategies.

Through structured learning and practice, students learn how to apply mathematical reasoning, select appropriate methods and solve a range of problems. Our aim is for every Student, regardless of starting point, to make strong progress and achieve qualifications that support their future ambitions.

Science

The Key Stage 4 Science curriculum aims to develop students’ curiosity about the world while strengthening their ability to think critically and work independently. Students investigate key scientific concepts through hands-on activities and practical learning, helping them to understand how scientific ideas apply to everyday life.

Lessons provide opportunities for students to carry out investigations, form predictions, analyse evidence and draw conclusions from their findings. Through studying Combined Science GCSE, students gradually build their scientific knowledge while also developing important skills such as problem solving, resilience and analytical thinking, preparing them for further learning and future career pathways.

Art

The Key Stage 4 Art curriculum encourages students to develop creativity, resilience and independent thinking. Students explore a variety of artistic techniques, materials and processes while developing their own ideas and creative style.

Students learn about both historical and contemporary artists, helping them to understand how art reflects culture and society. The course also introduces students to the wide range of careers and opportunities available within the creative industries.

Food Technology

The Key Stage 4 Food Technology curriculum provides students with practical cooking experience while developing an understanding of nutrition and healthy eating. The curriculum allows students to explore a variety of cooking methods, ingredients and food preparation techniques.

Alongside practical lessons, students learn about food safety, nutritional value and meal planning. The course is designed to give students the knowledge and skills needed to progress towards appropriate qualifications such as WJEC Eduqas Technical Award Hospitality & Catering.

Music

The Key Stage 4 Music curriculum intends to not only focus on helping students to express themselves creatively through performance and composition but also includes preparing students for music industry careers. This comprehensive program ensures students not only cultivate a thorough understanding of music but also acquire practical skills, providing them with the essential knowledge for successful endeavours in the dynamic music industry. The curriculum aims to empower students with a well-rounded musical education that prepares them for a variety of opportunities and challenges; all whilst gaining a BTEC qualification.

Physical Education (PE)

The Key Stage 4 PE curriculum is based on the principle of “Sport for All”, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to participate and enjoy physical activity. Through a range of sports and activities, students develop physical fitness, teamwork and confidence.

Lessons are designed to improve physical ability as well as social and mental wellbeing. Students are encouraged to apply their skills in different sporting situations, including competitive activities, while building resilience and teamwork.

PSHE / RSE

The Key Stage 4 Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) curriculum helps students develop the knowledge and life skills needed to become healthy, responsible and confident adults.

Students explore topics such as relationships, wellbeing, financial awareness, future careers and decision-making. Lessons encourage discussion, reflection and understanding of different viewpoints, helping students to develop respect for others.

Religious Education is also included within the PSHE curriculum, supporting students in developing awareness and respect for different faiths, beliefs and cultures.

This curriculum ensures students are prepared for life in a diverse and modern society.

Parents have the statutory right to withdraw their child from the sex education element of the RSE curriculum.
